Ellas y Ellos ó Ellos y Ellas.
Madrid: Alrededor del Mundo (1917).
Item #9150
Carmen de Burgos (1867-1932) was a pioneering feminist and considered to be the first female journalist in Spain. This satirical novel deals explicitly with the homosexual subculture in Madrid and reflects her leftist ideals that were very outspoken for the day. After the Spanish Civil War, Burgos’s work—including this novel—was suppressed by the Franco regime, which placed her on its first list of forbidden authors. It has only been recovered and recognized as a foundational feminist text in recent decades. A very good copy in original wrappers, light wear to covers and browning to spine. Uncommon.
