Léon Delafosse (1874 – 1951) was a French composer and pianist, generally considered the model for the character of Charles Morel, a violinist portrayed in Marcel Proust's novel In Search of Lost Time. He had been an intimate in the Proust/Montesquiou circle and had his portrait painted by John Singer Sargent.
The dedication copy, inscribed by Delafosse to Countess Emanuela Potocka, born Princess Emanuela Pignatelli di Cerchiara (1852–1930), whose fashionable salons in Paris attracted Proust, Maupassant, Barrès, Bourget, Robert de Montesquiou, Reynaldo Hahn, among others.
Very good in lightly faded wrappers, bound with Grieg, Chansons d'Enfants. (Heugel, Paris, [1895]) and Rollinat, Rondels & Rondeaux. Henry Lemoine, Paris, [1883] in a worn red buckram and leather binding with the intials "M.P" stamped in gilt on cover, marbled endpapers. There is also a calligraphed inscription on front endpaper- "A Madame la Comtesse Potocka."
