Kiefer was a founding member of the "Gemeinschaft der Eigenen," founded in Berlin on May 1, 1903. He was a well-known author who published numerous works on ancient homosexuality and the youthful ideal.
The text includes photographic reproductions of seven artworks on the theme of the young male in art. Kiefer contributed regularly to Adolf Brand's Der Eigene, as well as Magnus Hirschfeld's Jahrbuch für Sexuelle Zwischenstufen. He also published several books with the important gay crusader Max Spohr under various pseudonymns, including "Pugnator" and "Reiffegg."
