Ryls ou un Amour hors la loi

Paris: 7 Octobre 1923.

Item #7778

This unsigned essay on the front page of the newspaper Comoedia is a sympathetic review of one of the most important gay novels written in France. The novel has strong revolutionary elements of anarchism, and captures the spirit of the age, including vivid descriptions of the drag balls of Paris. The protoganist, an academic, falls in love with his friend Didier, but the relationship is complicated by Didier's sister Hélène, who also loves Ryls. Guy Levis Mano described the work thusly: 'ce poème audacieux et magnifique de la beauté du corps mâle". Tamagne, Thèse, 543 ; Barbedette, 310.
Good, browned paper and light edgewear.
