Bonn: Marcus & Webers Verlag (1919-20). A collection of essays on sexology, including one by the gay rights' advocate, Numa Praetorius (Eugene Wilhelm) "Das Liebesleben Lidwigs XIII von Frenkreich". Marcuse was an editor for Magnus Hirschfeld’s Journal of Sexology in 1919 and continued editing the journal until 1932. Very good in orange wrappers, light wear to rear covers, pages uncut, wear to spine. More
Giraud: Paris (1885) 378pp. This naturalistic novel is perhaps the author's most highly regarded work and is an early work with lesbian characters. The author was a member of the Académie Goncourt and frequently wrote about the struggle for equality and women's rights. Very good in 1/4 leather boards, edgewear to boards, wrappers not present. More
Buenos Aires (1923). 2 vols. Considered by some to be a classic of its genre of the 1920s, the book created problems for its author for its portrayal of outré lifestyles. Originally published in French several years earlier, this edition is part of the Los Selectos series published in Argentina Good in stapled wrappers, light wear to covers and browning to paer. More
Cucuverville: a l'Enseigne des deux prix Nobel (2020). 26pp. Previously unpublished correspondence between Martin du Gard and Pierre Herbart, both of whom had close relations with Andre Gide and were privy to issues related to his sexuality. One of only sixteen hand numbered copies. Fine as issued. More
Paris: Imprimerie Crété 1922-1923. The complete run of the short-lived French satirical magazine consisting of 23 issues. Founded by Emile Merle, each issue of the review was illustrated by a sole artist, including Gus Bofa, Sem, P. Falké, L. Laforge, Boris, J. Hémard, Roubille, Vertès, Charles Martin, Text includes works by P. Reboux, M. Dekobra, Séverine, Ch.-H. Hirsh, R. Dorgelès, G. Chérau, R. de Jouvenel, H. Béraud, Curnonsky, P. Mac Orlan, M. Achard, Galtier-Boissière, Colette, F. de Miomandre and others. Of particular interest is the issue entitled "Les Gauchesses" which has numerous illustrations by Martin related to "Un Sport a la Mode: l'Inversion." Very good in linen binding, all wrappers present. More
London: His Majesty's Stationery Office (1949). 66pp. A rather odd publication of the Privy Council which analyzes the respective physiques of city vs. town dwellers, immigrants vs. natives, etc. with extensive statistical information. The information is collated by county, most of which appears to have been gathered during the war years. Very good in original wrappers, slight browning to wrappers. More

Werner Laurie Ltd (1914). 606pp. Millard's comprehensive bibliography of Wilde's work, which includes numerous illustrations and over one hundred reproductions of title-pages, manuscripts, etc. and unpublished cartoons by Aubrey Beardsley and Max Beerbohm. Very good in blue boards, light wear to head and tail of spine, top edge gilt, light spotting to foredge. Laid in is a review slip from the publisher and a 1p. ALS from Millard on Burlington magazine letterhead. More

[Paris?] : [Massot], [between 1958 and 1961]. 66pp. First edition of this erotic text written in 1932 while the author was living on Francis Picabia's yacht moored in Cannes. Andre Gide contributes an extensive introduction to the work, which is a recounting of Massot's homosexual experiences. The author, a member of the Dada movement also describes the artistic and literary circles of Montparnasse with memories of Eric Satie and Marcel Duchamp. Very good in lightly faded wrappers, unbound as issued, paper lightly browned, #122 of 220 copies. It appears that this may be a trade edition of the text published by Pierre-André-Benoit in 1959, which appeared in an edition of 55 copies with an illustration of the author by Jacques Villon. More
Vintage portrait of the acclaimed novelist taken at a luncheon in Capri at the home of Kenneth Macpherson and Islay Lyons (Nancy Cunard and Norman Douglas were also in attendance). Taken by Lyons in the early 1950s, stamped on verso with penned notation. (7" x 9"). Very good condition. More
Saint-Maxant (1990). A collection of eleven letters written by the French writer and Academician to a young gay priest in the 1930s and 1940s, some of which are reproduced in facsimile. Introduction by Andre Dalbigny, S.J. This is the first appearance of these letters and they are an important insight into a part of the writer's life that is not widely known. One of only fifty copies printed on Demi Chiffon Gris Janseniste (and an hors commerce copy for the archbishop of Bordeaux). This copy is also an hors commerce copy. Fine in original black wrappers. Uncommon. More
Neuchatel: [Société des Bibliophiles Cosmopolites] (1873). 97pp. The first reprint of these notorious revolutionary tracts regarding sodomy, originally published in 1790, all of which are now extremely rare. Les Enfans de Sodome a l'Assemblée Nationale ou Députation de l'Ordre de la Manchette lists a great number of individuals by name, all of whom were accused of homosexual acts, causing an uproar when it originally appeared. Very good in contemporary 1/4 morocco binding, raised bands, gilt design marbled endpapers, small bookplate on front pastedown one of only 100 numbered copies (copy #62). Rare. More
Paris: Figuiere [1916]. 30pp. A short play script/poem about a romantic drama among two men and a women. Bound in handmade boards, title written on cover, long inscription by the author on endpaper, along with an original drawing adhered to front pastedown, tassled thread, bookplate of Octave Chavaillon. Laid in at rear is a 4pp (1 sheet folded) printed collection of five sonnets entitled "Antinous", each of which are initialed by the author, who has also inscribed and numbered the collection. A curious publication-we can find no example in any institution, nor any other works published by the author. More
Paris: Contact Publishing Co. (1923). One of the first publications of McAlmon's press, so named because of it's affinities with his earlier collection of stories, A Hasty Bunch. McAlmon arrived in Paris several years earlier and married Bryher, who financed his Contact Editions. A very good copy in original buff wrappers, spine a bit browned, with slight chipping. More
Zurich: Der Kreis (1961). An unbound set of the complete year of 12 issues for 1961. It was published in German, French and English and contained articles on literature, art and culture and each edition contained photographs and artwork, many by renowned artists. Artwork by George Platt Lynes, Paul Cadmus, George Platt Lynes, Jean Boullet and stories by James Barr, Michael Kuzmin and others. In Hubert Kennedy's book The Ideal Gay Man, which chronicles the history of Der Kreis, Kennedy describes the magazine as having been "the world's most important journal promoting the legal and social rights of gay men" for much of its publication period and one of very few such journals in Europe at the time.Additionally, it remains the only gay publication to include editorial content in three languages. (Wikipedia) In 2014, the magazine's history was documented in a Swiss docudrama film eponymously titled The Circle. The film, which features a mix of historical footage from the 1950s and dramatizations of events, won the Teddy Award and the Panorama Audience Award in the documentary category at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival. All issues are very good condition with minimal cover wear. More

London: Swan, Sonnenschein and Co, 1892. One of 100 special copies (#21) signed by the publisher in original vellum covers with 44 woodcut designs by Laurence Housman. A lovely copy, a bit of spotting to covers, endpapers browned. A great example of 1890s book production. More
