Paris: Librairie de la tradition nationale (1897). 21pp.
Illustrated essay on the notorious Gilles de Rais by one of the foremost figures of the Decadent movement in literature. Five photographs of the Chateau de Tiffauges and the environs are reproduced in the text, which was delivered by Huysmans as a lecture at the Congrès d'Ethnographie et d'Art populaire in 1896.
One of 100 numbered copies, none of which were for sale, this is example #47 inscribed by publisher on front endpaper. Very good in wrappers, wrappers browned, spine starting. Uncommon.
