Fuchs was a prolific writer on issues related to homosexuality and was one of the very few people of his era to openly declare his homosexuality during the Wilhelmine era. One of the founding members of Adolf Brand's Gemeinschaft der Eigenen, he was praised for his openness by Magnus Hirschfeld in the Jahrbuch für sexuelle Zwischenstufen in 1903.
