An erotic classic, first published in 1867, the text was attributed by Apollinaire to Gustave Droz and has been interpreted by various artists with erotic plates. This edition was illustrated by Brouet, one of the finest original etchers of early twentieth century French art.
Bound in half dark brown morocco over marbled paper boards, spine lettered and panelled in gilt with coloured decorations of autumnal leaves, top edge gilt; with 8 erotic etched illustrations by Brouet and two extra unused plates bound in at the rear. Spine a little sunned, otherwise a very good copy. Limited edition of 125 numbered copies, this copy includes 2 extra unused etched plates by Brouet bound in at the rear. From the library of diplomat and politician Duff Cooper, first Viscount Norwich with his Rex Whistler designed bookplate. BN Enfer 822, Pia 761.
