The first modern reprinting of this controversial "psychological" novel that appeared originally in 1826 under odd circumstances. The authorship of the novel, which many believe has homosexual undertones, was disputed for many years and for a while was attributed to Duchesse Claire de Duras. A very nice copy in wrappers, One of 130 copies on Rives (this is example #11). Uncommon in any edition.
