Lord Julian book

Newly Released Editions

LORD LYLLIAN: BLACK MASSES by Jacques d'Adelswärd Fersen

This edition is the first English translation of the eccentric Baron Fersen's decadent gay novel, Lord Lyllian: Black Masses. Fersen (1880-1923) was arrested in 1903 and charged with indecent assault and "exciting minors to debauchery". He was forced to leave France and settled in Capri, where he began the novel the following year. Originally published in 1905, it was one of the first novels written about Oscar Wilde after his demise and is filled with outrageous descriptions of fin de siècle excesses, including Fersen's own addiction to opium and adolescent boys. The edition is limited to 500 copies bound in black silk moiré, with a reproduction of the original cover illustration by Claude Simpson tipped onto the cover. Jeremy Reed has contributed an Introduction to the edition. $65

Wanted Titles

Elysium Press was created in 1980 to print and publish letterpress books by authors whose works were either out of print or out of fashion in the contemporary book world. There is a particular focus on works by gay authors of the last century whose work has been neglected or overlooked by the commerical trade. The books are printed by hand on fine papers and are hand bound in limited editions. The book lists on this site incorporate the editions of Elysium Press, as well as many other books that may be of interest.

All books are subject to prior sale and must be pre-paid unless credit has been established. Any item sent on approval may be returned within 7 days for any reason. Payment may be made by Visa/Mastercard, personal check or money order in U S dollars. Books will be shipped by first class mail unless otherwise directed.
