THE PHOTOGRAPHS OF FREDERICK ROLFE Baron Corvo 1860-1913 by Donald Rosenthal
Asphodel Editions announces the publication of the first compilation of the photographic works of Frederick, Rolfe, (Baron Corvo) by Donald Rosenthal. Rolfe is worthy of interest as a photographer whose best works, particularly in the genre of the outdoor male nude, are early and excellent examples of their kind. He was the leading English exponent of Arcadian photography in Italy, a field that otherwise was dominated by German artists and their Italian followers. His outdoor figure studies from Italy show the same consistency and artistic control that characterize his nearly contemporary Toto stories and the later Hadrian VII.
Limited to two hundred casebound copies ($85.) and fifty numbered slipcased copies. ($150.) The book was printed in color on Mohawk Superfine and is bound in Japanese cloth. 145pp. ISBN: 1-893450-49-X (regular edition); 1-893450-48-1 (special edition)

LORD LYLLIAN: BLACK MASSES by Jacques d'Adelswärd Fersen
This edition is the first English translation of the eccentric Baron Fersen's decadent gay novel, Lord Lyllian: Black Masses. Fersen (1880-1923) was arrested in 1903 and charged with indecent assault and "exciting minors to debauchery". He was forced to leave France and settled in Capri, where he began the novel the following year. Originally published in 1905, it was one of the first novels written about Oscar Wilde after his demise and is filled with outrageous descriptions of fin de siècle excesses, including Fersen's own addiction to opium and adolescent boys. The edition is limited to 500 copies bound in black silk moiré, with a reproduction of the original cover illustration by Claude Simpson tipped onto the cover. Jeremy Reed has contributed an Introduction to the edition. $65
